Natural Language Processing
Natural Language Processing. Natural Language Processing (NLP) has been at the core of AI research from its beginnings. NLP has made significant progress since then and is now a well-established field of research and technology with significant and growing industrial and societal relevance. Applications of NLP include machine translation, text mining and analytics, chatbots, information access and knowledge graphs, among others. There are strong connections also with other strands in the CRT, with Visual Media Processing, as the analysis of textual data and data in other modalities, such as image, video, audio and sensors, is increasingly interconnected. A strong connection also exists between NLP and the Personalization strand, as the data analysis required for this often concerns textual data. NLP therefore has a significant but often hidden impact on people’s lives, which needs to be made more transparent as will be investigated in the strand on Fair, Accountable & Transparent AI.
